Our Story

Children of Promise Inc. was born from a simple yet powerful idea shared by founder Ida Fliggins and her late husband, Anthony Fliggins. What started as a small cookout in their back alley—where they handed out backpacks, school supplies, and offered arts and crafts to just 25 children—has grown into a beloved community tradition. Today, our annual Back-to-School Festival welcomes over 700 attendees and continues to grow each year.

At this vibrant festival, we provide:

  • Free backpacks with school supplies
  • School uniforms and brand-new shoes
  • Arts and crafts
  • Fresh meals and snacks
  • Community resources for the whole family
  • Baby diapers, formula, and clothing
  • Free Hair Cuts

As the years passed, we saw a growing need—not just for school supplies, but for warm clothing in the colder months. Six years ago, we launched our Annual Coat Giveaway, now held during our Christmas Festival, where families can also enjoy free photos with Santa Claus and Free Toys!.

In the spring, we host a joyful Easter Festival, distributing Easter baskets and summer clothing to children. These events are more than just giveaways—they are safe, joyful spaces for families who may not have the means to attend traditional entertainment venues. We aim to make every holiday a memorable one for the children we serve.

Over the past 15 years, Children of Promise Inc. has proudly served more than 10,000 children.

In addition to our outreach events, our founder Ida Fliggins has provided high-quality, affordable childcare for over 40 years, continuing to serve the same community where she lives and leads.

At Children of Promise, we believe that every child deserves joy, dignity, and the opportunity to thrive. Our mission is to show families that they are seen, supported, and never alone.
